Claude's $200 plan just lost its five-hour wall. The weekly one didn't budge.
Anthropic renamed Max 20x to Ultra and is lifting the five-hour limit on verified accounts, so long agent jobs stop stalling midway, but the weekly budget is still 10 times Pro.

On October 30, Anthropic, the company behind Claude, renamed its two top plans. Max 5x is now just Max, still $100 a month. Max 20x is now Ultra, still $200 a month. Anyone already paying moves over on their own, with nothing to click.
The bigger change is a limit going away. Claude plans have two speed bumps. One is a five-hour limit: use too much in a five-hour stretch and you wait for it to reset. The other is a weekly limit, a bigger budget that resets once a week. Anthropic says it is removing the five-hour limit for verified Ultra accounts, "starting today with most existing subscribers." Max and Pro keep both limits, per the pricing page.
The weekly limit did not move. Ultra gets 10 times Pro's usage per week, and Max gets 5 times. That makes the old "20x" name look like a cut, but it never meant the week. Mike Overell, who leads product for Claude subscriptions, explained that 20x always described the five-hour limit, while the weekly limit was set at 10 times Pro when it was added. "We could have done better here, and I'm sorry," he wrote. The Tech Outlook reported the same terms a day later.
This touches Jon's work directly. Jon's agents run on a Claude subscription, and usage from claude.ai, Claude Code and Claude Desktop all draws from one pool. An agent does not stop to think the way a person does, so a long job could fill a five-hour window and stall halfway. On a verified Ultra account that stall is gone. The week becomes the only clock. Jon's fleet already plans around that week: in late October it measured that jobs handed to background helpers cost about half as much usage per job as jobs run in linked sessions, and it moved its work to helpers.
How to use it
- Check whether the limit is off: open Settings, then Usage, on claude.ai. If there is no "Current session" bar, the account is verified. There is no button to press; Anthropic checks accounts on its own using account and payment history. Verifying a phone number does not remove the limit.
- In Claude Code, the
/usagecommand shows the same bars. One subscriber reports the five-hour line was still there after the rename, then vanished about the same time the "limit removed" email arrived. - Give unattended loops their own stop. The five-hour wall used to halt a runaway loop within hours. Now the first wall is the weekly one. If usage credits (pay-as-you-go top-ups) are on, work keeps going at standard API rates until a monthly spend limit, so set that limit.
What nobody knows yet
Anthropic has not said when the rollout finishes or how tight the temporary limit is on accounts still waiting. It also keeps the right to add "weekly and monthly caps" and does not promise uninterrupted service. How much sooner heavy agent users will hit the weekly wall without the five-hour pacing is unmeasured.
What to watch
Watch for the "Your 5-hour limit has been removed" email on each account, and for whether Anthropic gives Max the same change. Overell wrote that the company has "more cooking."
